Care Home Bathroom Improvements
A complete bathroom transformation improving safety, accessibility, and efficiency for residents and care staff.
Project Description
This project involved a full bathroom renovation within a South Cornwall care home, replacing an unreliable manual bath lift with a safer, more practical solution for both residents and caregivers.
The space was redesigned to improve accessibility, safety, and ease of assistance, incorporating a level access shower, specialist waterproof flooring, and an electric rise-and-fall bath to support safer moving and handling.
The finished bathroom now enables more efficient care delivery, reduces physical strain on nursing staff, and provides residents with a more comfortable, dignified bathing experience in a durable, easy-to-maintain environment.

Work Undertaken
We began by stripping the entire room, removing the outdated manual bath lift. A level access shower tray was installed to provide safe, easy access for residents. We fitted a thermostatic mixer shower for precise temperature control and added half-height doors, allowing caregivers to assist residents with ease while maintaining water containment.
The entire room was covered in specialized flooring, including 100mm upstands around the perimeter, ensuring the bathroom was fully waterproofed and easy to clean.
To further support the care home’s needs, we installed a specialized electric rise-and-fall bath, making the process of bathing residents much easier and safer for the nursing staff. The bath’s height adjustability offered caregivers more flexibility in assisting with bathing, improving both comfort and efficiency.
A new basin and comfort-height WC were also installed, providing additional accessibility for residents and making the bathroom a fully functional, accessible space.
Outcome
The new bathroom significantly improved both the functionality and safety of the care home’s facilities. The level access shower and electric rise-and-fall bath provided practical solutions for assisting residents, while the specialized flooring ensured durability and ease of maintenance. The nursing staff can now provide better care, and the residents benefit from a more comfortable bathing experience.
